Better luck next time Erny

Lejeune High head basketball coach Doug Erny’s quest for career victory No. 300 was denied Tuesday when his Devilpups lost to Richlands 71-64.

I won’t say if, but when Erny gets his next victory, win he will be the third area coach to earn a milestone win.

Phil Padgett of Southwest and East Duplin’s Brian Aldridge each earned their 200th career football victory this fall. And while basketball victories come more often than football wins due to the number of more hoops games, Erny’s 300 win is still an impressive mark.

That especially when you consider he coaches for a program that isn’t very stable due to the volume of transfers via the military year in and year out.

Lejeune will now try to give Erny the milestone win Friday when the Devilpups host Southwest.
