No cure for slow starts

I spoke with Clinton football coach Steve Mallard earlier this week regarding his team’s game at East Duplin on Friday, and asked him why his team seems to struggle early in the season before turning in on in East Central 2-A Conference play.

The Dark Horses are 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the ECC following an 0-3 start to the season, continuing the trend of poor starts but solid finishes by Clinton the previous few seasons.

This is what Mallard had to say about that:

“I don’t really know what it is. As much work we put in the summer, I have no explaination. I do know this, we have people go both ways, so conditioning could be a major factor early on.”
