More from Pirates, Vikings
Doug Kidd –
On the mood Thursday after beating Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday:
“We talked (On Thursday) about the schedule for the rest of the week. We also talked about Forbush, and the girls were very attentative in that.”
On reaching the state title game in his first season at Swansboro:
“It’s a great feeling. I think probably the most enjoyment I get out of it is the player’s reaction to it all. To see the smiles on their faces and see the fun they are having. Right now we are having a blast.”
On his preseason expectations:
“Not trying to be cocky, but knowing the latent level here and the tradition, to me it is expected to compete for a state championship.”
Carrie Dail –
On her reaction after defeating Cardinal Gibbons:
“I was so excited. It was the best feeling in a while.”
On the difference between this year’s Pirates and those of the past two years:
“I enjoy this team. Last year was really upsetting in a lot of ways, but this year I have more respect for high school soccer.”
Stephanie Rose –
On her knowledge of Kings Mountain:
“I actually tried to look things up and I couldn’t really find anything. If anything, I just wanted to know their record.”
On what makes this year’s team good:
“(Coach) Buddy (Carroll) at practice says we are playing for playing time. We try to keep them intense and go into the game with it.”
Buddy Carroll –
On the keys for Saturday’s game:
“Every girl has to be ready to play. That’s where we are most dangerous is if everybody is on their game.”
“As long as we run at teams and not receive the ball in the air.”
On what could be a difference:
“You never know. It’s going to be so intense, that it might take one explosive move or opportunity to sway momentum early. I kind of have feeling it might not be Stephanie.”
On depth and distributing playing time:
They all accepted their roles. They are good people, so it really hasn’t been (a problem). They sit and when their times they step up and work.”
